I am honored to serve you as the CIE-USA National Council (NC) chairman.  Under the previous leadership of the CIE-USA National Council, CIE-USA has successfully held the following three major conferences or events since the inception of CIE-USA NC in 1986.  They are:

1.) Continuing to hold the Modern Engineering and Technology Seminar (METS) conference in Taipei, Taiwan every two year since 1966.

2.) Establishing and continuing to hold the Sino-American Technology and Engineering Conference (SATEC) in Beijing, China every two year since 1993.

3.) Initiating and holding the National Engineers Week (EWeek) Asian American Engineer of the Year Award (AAEOY) annually since 2002.  It is worthwhile to mention that AAEOY 2002 and 2003 were held in Dallas and AAEOY 2004 was in San Francisco, respectively.  Thanks to the great effort of the area  chapters of Dallas and San Francisco, the AAEOY events have been very successful so far.

In 2004, I would like to thank our SATEC chairman, Dr. Wen Lin and his officers, our METS chairman, Dr. Tim Chen and his officers, who help organize the events to be held in April 2004 in Beijing, China and in Nov. 2004, Taipei, Taiwan, respectively. They have done so much to make the activities possible and to ensure the success of the conferences.  I wish the success of the two important events to be held in 2004.

While we are emerging to the Information Technology (IT) age, the Internet communications have helped the information exchange and make a global village possible. In a global village era, CIE-USA is even more privileged to serve our homelands in Asia through METS and SATEC activities, and to serve in the United States mainstream Chinese Americans through EWeek.  During the National Engineers Week (EWeek), CIE holds the annual Asian American Engineer of the Year Award banquet as part of EWeek (www.eweek.org) activities.  In addition, CIE-USA also supports Future City Competition (www.futurecity.org) through National Engineers Week each year.

CIE-USA is a unique group of engineers in the United States, who were educated both in the United States and Asia and are dedicated to serve the engineering society voluntarily. On the other hand, CIE-USA is a diversity group in the Unites States, and we are proud of our Chinese American heritage. Our CIE heritage is unique and has been part of the melting pot in the United States since the founding of CIE in 1917.  The Asian/Chinese American engineers have contributed tremendously to the making and shaping of this country in engineering and beyond, whether they are in fortune 500 companies, startup companies, major universities, and government organizations.  They are outstanding. Today more works such as globalization and more mainstream participation lie ahead of us to do.  Thanks to the vision of our CIE founding father, CIE-USA has grown to thousands of members and six chapters in the nation. While we thank for the glorious history, CIE would continue to serve at home and abroad and grasp the opportunities lie in front of us. Finally I wish that we all have another successful year in 2004-2005, whether activities in your area chapter, METS in Taiwan, SATEC in China, or AAEOY in NJ.  I welcome you and invite you to attend the AAEOY award banquet on February 26, 2005 in NJ.  Thank You!
